From memory I replaced the filter with the plate in place so fingers crossed it should all be there...

I imagine I'll lose a little bit of oil when I release the filter but it's more up a top up rather than a complete refill?

I recently replaced my sump oil, gearbox oil and oil filter. When it came to drain the collecting tray into bottles I found this spring (along with various shards of steel) at the bottom. Does anyone have any ideas? My guess is it's part of the large bolt that keeps the oil filter in place....[frame...

Went with Picton Sports Cars up in Waltham Abbey in the end. Lovely guys, great service and know their stuff being a Triumph specialist...

Was a worn clutch in the end. Replaced it and runs fine despite a bit of chatter which I'm told will fade after a few miles.

Grappled with the exhaust and it sounds fine.

The knock only appears at the bite point and only from cold. I'm taking it for inspection by a local clutch man...will report back

This is a bit of detective work but worth a try. If I leave the car for an hour or so, when I drive away and raise the clutch with first gear engaged I can hear an unsettling thud/knock from under the car. Possibly middle/rear. After that there's nothing and next time I drive away in first its fine?...

The time has come to replace the clutch on my 1098. I'd love to do it myself but don't have access to a garage.

Can anyone recommend a mechanic in London who could be trusted with the job? (I'm in N15)

Yeah there's free play at the pedal. I'd guess at about 30mm maybe but I'd have to measure it to be accurate.

Put 2 or 3 turns on the adjuster and seems to have done the trick! No more spin in 3rd and 4th...

Are there any dangers of tightening too far? The pedal feels a little different to last time but it could just be that it's actually i a better position...

Thanks. Yes, there is a cap on the hub but I'll have a nose inside and see how it looks before getting carried away and removing the hub.

p.s. Is it much of a risk driving the odd short journey if I'm losing hub grease?

New today! Accelerating in 3rd 4th appears to make the engine rev but speed stays pretty much the same. It seems fine in 1st and 2nd but beyond that i just get revs!

I'm thinking that means a clutch replacement? Any ideas welcome...

Thanks everyone. Polarity reversed successfully. Just gotta clean and gap the Ignition points and clean the fuel pump points and I'm done!

Thanks fellas. Seems to spin fine so I'll give the repacking a go - I've not done my homework on that yet but does it involve removing the drums or is it pretty straight forward?

Earlier today I removed the passenger side front wheel and revealed a rather alarming oil leak coming from somewhere in the front hub when I popped off the hub cap! If it's not clear from the photo it seems to be escaping from the hole in the middle and is also the same on the inside of the hub . Ha...

When you say the 'non earth' terminal do you mean the orignal non earth terminal?...in my case the original non earth is negative on the battery ?
