Re: 53 Split Screen FINALLY OUT ON THE ROAD!!!
Congrats on the car - looks superb. I notice you have the very rare glovebox clock. Is this an original or a modern reproduction? Thanks, I managed to get a genuine one from ebay (£120), it is a bit rusty on the back and is not working yet, but at least I didn't pay over £400 like some of them cost...

Re: Car buying / selling scams
Just had this email from the advert I have on Classic and collectors cars. Definitely a scam I would say (the usual terrible English and offering to buy the car without even seeing it or asking the right questions? All they seem to want is for me to either send them the email address for the paypal ...

Re: 53 Split Screen FINALLY OUT ON THE ROAD!!!
Just over 2 hours to go and no bids on that auction site...... Yeah, not surprising really, hard times and £8,000 is a lot of money (even if that is the parts bill alone!) The longer it takes to sell the longer I get to keep it so no tears from me! Taking it to a small show at British Airways on Su...

Re: 53 Split Screen FINALLY OUT ON THE ROAD!!!
Looks very nice - well done! :D I can get a pretty good finish polishing mine myself but look forward to seeing what the professionals can do. Didn't realise that a professional polish & detailing was so expensive though! :o The photos don't do it justice but if you compare the before and after...

Re: 1953 Series 2 for sale on ebay
The original advert says that it was converted from a side valve Series MM but as the bonnet badges were changed there was nothing to prove that. Perhaps if you could send me the chassis number I may be able to identify it. Hi, Thanks, PM sent. The heritage certificate doesn;t show the original CC,...

Re: 53 Split Screen FINALLY OUT ON THE ROAD!!!
Hi, One question, why is there a gear shift sized hole in your tunnel carpet, have you fitted a five speed with the old gear lever re-attached? Hope you continue to enjoy her. Best wishes, Mike. Thanks for the comments, glad you like it! To be honest, I have been a car fan for over forty years but ...

53 Split Screen FINALLY OUT ON THE ROAD!!!
Hi, I bought the 53 Minor a year ago (there was a topic about it at that time too, advertised on ebay and people were not sure if it was value for money. I took a "punt" and bought it unseen "SCARY", but I had allowed for it being a disappointment and basically it was VERY solid ...

Re: Speedo cable series 2 with 948
Well - if it's a 948 box - then the standard speedo cable should fit! Or - do you have an 803 box with a 948 remote extension grafted on the end??? Hi, No, it is a standard 948 box. But good old Speedy Cables seem to have the answer. There are two cables they stock for this combination. One with a ...

Re: Speedo cable series 2 with 948
Not sure about that.bmcecosse wrote:So the next question must be - can the 948 speedo cable drive be fitted into the 803 gearbox ?? Is the scroll on the output shaft the same in both boxes - and just the gear that runs against it slightly different??
I have the 948 gearbox not the 803.

Re: Speedo cable series 2 with 948
But no-one has answered the OPs question about a speedo cable to fit the 803 gearbox ! Surely this must be a common thing?? Thanks! I have emailed a few of the parts companies (Wares, ESM, etc.) without much luck. Scott from ESM replied quickly (as he always does) stating that they only stock std c...

Re: Speedo cable series 2 with 948
As usual from this great forum, LOTS of very useful help, thanks everyone. Yes my connection on the gearbox is slightly bigger than the connector on the new cable tgAt I bought. I will try to get an adapter although with this being a reasonably common swap )I thought) I was hoping that I could get a...

Re: Speedo cable series 2 with 948
I can't answer about the cable, although I'm sure this must be a common conversion. Check the TPM number of the black speedo against the 'correct' one you plan to fit. I suspect the black one may have been fitted to get the correct readings - there is a considerable difference in the speedo drive r...
