Re: INSURANCE
Hey all, I am looking at buying at Morris Minor which is fitted with a 1275cc engine from a Morris Marina - is this a common conversion, and if so, are there significant increases in insurance costs? Are there are any common problems or issues to look out for with this combination? Is a new gearbox...

Re: DVLA Change Advice
I sent off my son`s to change the engine from a 1098 to 1275 and there were no issues at all.
It came back within about 3 weeks with the amended details.

Re: Water Pump Leak
I tried again this morning and no leak it was possibly because I overfilled the rad so I will keep an eye on the levels.

Re: Water Pump Leak
Sounds good, which do you think was the culprit? I`m still not sure if it`s right. We`ve not had a long run yet but water levels aren`t dropping rapidly. The bottom hose seemed to come off the old water pump too easily and thr top connection of the bypass had leaked as had a split to the jubilee cl...

Re: Water Pump Leak
Seem to have sorted the water leak. Changed the pump and bypass hose and all clips.
Done a 3 mile trip and no water loss.

Re: Water Pump Leak
Hi, Could you point out which bypass hose you recommend. ESM seem to have three and Bull Motif two who would you use? The one on the car which doesn`t look to be the leak culprit I agree it will get changed as it looks fragile is a straight pipe. There is one kevlar and one rubber at ESM. The car is...

Water Pump Leak
Hi, A leak has appeared on the water circuit. The system has recently been flushed and refilled with antifreeze / coolant. Aleak has developed from the centre pulley / fanblade pulley on the front of the engine. I am presuming this is the water pump. Is it any good to try the stuff thats supposed to...

Re: Five speed insurance
My son`s insurance was £1095 for a 1098cc and £1295 for the 1275cc engine.
That`s first time insurance with a provisional licence with Footman James.

Re: Fitting Starter Motor
Yes I checked every possible earth strap on the car and they were sound.
It looks like it was the timing that was too far advanced.

Re: Engine bay colours
Thanks for the quick response. I looked at various threads but didn`t see that one,
I presume the black when matt is not specified is gloss looking at the under bonnet photo posted on that thread.
Another thread led me to believe that the colours varied slightly dependent on year of manufactue.

Re: Fitting Starter Motor
I took the advice and retarded the ignition slightly.
It`s early days yet and it needs to be fully tested but it does seem to have solved the problem.
I probably need to twek a little but thanks for the invaluable advice.

Engine bay colours
Hi,
Could someeone please give me a guide to the correct colours for a 1963 build 4 door deluxe saloon.
Obviously I know some (or think I do)
I`m unclear whether some parts such as the air filter clanes housing and rad should be matt black or gloss, for example.
Thanks.

Re: Fitting Starter Motor
Thanks for the reply. The starter doesn`t seem to kick against the engine. The engine runs sweet and doesn`t pnk. The way it feels is as if there is too much resistance when you first try to start so it spins a little and stops. The initial spin of the engine then seems to free it and it spins and s...

Re: Fitting Starter Motor
I have checked the earth and battery connections, I can`t turn on the starting handle as there is just a nut on the pulley as the engine`s a 1275.
The car runs really well but I suppose the timing could be looked at.

Re: Fitting Starter Motor
OK cheers, it`s reconditioned so it`s totally oil or grease free.
It still hasn`t cured the fault though.
When first starting it seems to turn over slowly stops and doesn`t fire when pulled a second time it reacts normally and fires up.

Fitting Starter Motor
Hi,
Is there any need to grease any part of a reconditioned starter motor on fitting?
Thanks,
Paul.

Re: Boot Lock
O.K.
I did it. I took a screwdriver to the end and prised the end cap off, then took off the washers.
Once it was apart the locking stud was seized.
It spins to position once the lock works.
Another little job sorted.
Paul.

Hi,
The boot lock is upside down and wont lock even though the key slots in properly and rotates freely.
I have taken the handle off but would apprecite it if anyone has any advice and possibly diagrams on the disassemly and reassembly of the boot lock.

Re: Which Distributor
Hi,
Thanks for the input. The old distributor must have been too worn.
The car runs lovely now, no more missing and spluttering.
