Thanks for your suggestions, the extender looks good but, as my wife now informs me that the present belts don't pull out or retract smoothly, I am going for new Traveller belts.

Mystery solved! The misfire became worse and the car would not tick over. Nos. 3 & 4 cylinders were not firing at all and had no compression. Head off showed the gasket had failed between 3 & 4. new gasket, reset valve clearances and it sounds and performs like a Morris Minor again. The prob...

The water was about 7inches deep,enough to surge and drown the electrics. The engine didn't hydraulic and turned over easily on the handle. Since replacing the dizzy bits it starts and ticks over with no problems, I can increase or decrease the idle speed with the adjusting screw, the misfire comes ...

Thanks for the suggestion, all appears OK there, took them off and replaced them one at a time and tick over is smooth.
