Re: George!!!

Hi You dont need a full strip down to sort corrosion in the floors! You dont say where youre located but your best bet would be to get a fellow club member or a local morris minor specialist to have a look and give you an honest assessment of any repairs required. It looks from the outside to be a ...

Re: National Rally

I need to know: if dogs are allowed I want to put George in for the Working Minor category but as I have only had him for a few weeks I obviously haven't done enough miles. I wondered if it was taken pro rata. I can get the 3 MOTs. If my family want to join me camping do I just pay for a second car ...

Re: George!!!

I decided to clean the inside of George yesterday and when I got the carpets up the floor is in a bit of a state. Some patch welding and lots of rust and I could see a couple of small holes! Feeling very worried I decided to look up his MOT history!!!!! In 2009 the MOT tester failed him for va...

Oh dear,

My key seems to have stopped working and I am now locked out of George.

I will have to try and get in tomorrow through the boot or talk to my friendly locksmith!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thankyou. :)

Headlight Visors

Hi,

Does anyone know if chrome headlight visors would have been an original feature of a '68?

I can't make my mind up if I like them. If they were not original then I am tempted to take them off!

Re: George!!!

Well. George has made his first visit to my local garage. I had a look underneath and there is a lot of patch welding at the rear (where the suspension spring is attahced to the chassis?) and both the chassis legs have been extensively patched but George's "doctor" says that he feels it is...

Re: George!!!

I think I will be asking lots of questions!! George has gone to my local garage today so that Ben the owner can give me a list of things that need sorting. I hope it is not too long and that I can do most of it myself. I have been trawling through a couple of restoration books (kindly reccommended o...

Re: George!!!

Thank you for the advice about the headlining markyb. I will certainly search on here and probably give it a clean first and see what happens. I haven't noticed which page has been popular. I will test it and let you know :D George is going into the garage tomorrow, I need to get an alternator, disc...

Re: George!!!

Well here is George!! I haven't got much history, just a couple of MOTs. I had a good look at him last night and there are a few things even I can see that need doing. I am a bit suspicious about the n/s front wing. It has a crack in it down towards the bottom near the door and I think it might be f...

Re: George!!!

Well!! We picked George up on Saturday and my brother kindly towed him with an A frame behind his long wheel base Range Rover. Poor George disappeared from view behind the monstrosity but ran along quite happily behind. He looked so small and vulnerable (sorry I will have to rein in my mothering ins...

Re: Restoration Books

In the absence of any courses, it would be a good idea to acquire the skills before starting. No1 skill would be welding, have a look at the tutorials on this site http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/mig.htm Best how to on the web. Would be a good idea, once you've got your welder to get lots of scrap 1mm...

Re: George!!!

Thank you for your welcomes :P I am picking George up tomorrow (SO excited!!!!!!!) and I will certainly take some photos of him once we get him home. I have a suspicion that he is going to take over my life!! With 2 dogs, a grandchild, amateur dramatics and my sewing hobbies and working full time so...

Re: Restoration Books

There are several different books available but the one I found most useful was the Lindsay Porter Haynes Manual, it has loads of pictures and takes you through the whole process. Heres one on ebay and its not too dear http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Morris-Minor-1000-Haynes-Restoration-Manual-F442-/39030932...

Re: Restoration Books

Restoration isn't really something you can learn out of a book as the skills needed are practical and hands on rather than academic. The best thing you can do is to enrol on a restoration course- check your local night school colleges! Thank you for the advice chickenjohn. There doesn't seem to be ...

Restoration Books

I have bought a moggy (see Restoration Projects post from me) and would like to find a book that could hopefully help me with his restoration. I know the Haynes Manuals are useful but are they detailed enough for a novice like me. I was looking for something that would guide me through the whole pro...

George!!!

Well I am now the proud owner of a 1968 4 door Blue Moggy (actually I don't pick him up until Saturday) called George. Although he is apparently driveable (the seller has told me to trailer him home!!!!) he does need some work doing. I am looking forward to getting stuck in. He is going to hopefully...

Re: Most expensive Minor?

It would have to be absolutely perfect for that money. Can he guarantee the mileage?

Would someone pay that??

I am looking for a moggy but there is a limit to love!!!!! haha
