Re: The new addition to the family (my first traveller)
That's right and it is very useful to be able to remove this panel for cleaning and waxing. When you remove it you will be surprised how much dirt and water gets in there! That's why the bottom of the box section chassis rail has rotted away! I know some people weld these in place, but I would highl...

Re: The new addition to the family (my first traveller)
I would suggest replacing all the wood. It sounds like you plan to replace everything except the driver's side anyway. That way you will not have to worry about having to try and match. I suspect once you get all the drivers side sanded back to good wood, you may find dark or soft patches anyway. It...

Re: astra 1.6 8v engine conversion in a traveller need advice!
Seriously? There has to be a better reason than just having an engine to go through all that. True, you can put virtually any engine in a Minor, it just depends how much you want to spend, how many hours and what facilities you have. Unless someone has done exactly what you plan to do, you will have...

Re: Underbody Paint and Traveller whereabouts
Note that the chassis black paint is not fuel resistant! I do underbody corrosion protection as part of my business, but the climate in the UK is very different and so I don't think it is really applicable to your traveller. Corrosion prevention products and methods are also very different for old a...

Perfectly fine for jacking and of course you can use the original jack! Almost as if they were designed for the job!

Re: 1968 Police Morris Minor
Ideally, it should be etch primed immediately after blasting, like within half an hour, to prevent oxidisation in the pores. If the spots are on the surface (they should have been removed by the blasting process) then they can be sanded off with production paper. 120 grit should be fine, but you hav...

Re: Edd's 1969 2 door. UHU62H
It is such a shame after all the hard work you have done! But if you don't have the space to keep it then I have to agree with what has been said too. Now you have to spend time with your family and work towards providing for their needs. A short term distraction for the odd half hour a couple of ti...

Re: Percy the Beaut Ute
You will need to re-route the brake pipe across the bulkhead and put a simple four way connector in for the LH lights. Otherwise it's just to make the crossmember a bolt in fit. That said, it has to be one of the easiest engines to remove even with the crossmember in place, so I am not convinced the...

The loop is for a piece of wood that is used to twist the handle to operate the jack.

Re: Edd's 1098 engine rebuild.
Note the raised section for the dipstick next to the drain plug. Do not hammer that out! The small dents can be tapped out by resting the upturned sump on a vertical rod with a rounded end and tapping with a panel beating hammer. Using a sandbag as suggested, or a piece of soft wood will do, you can...

Re: ex army traveller
That said, in answer to the initial question, you could possibly save time and money by buying another better traveller as a donor. The problem is finding one! I would not recommend one that has been "repaired" too much already, as that will all need to be redone if you want it right.

Re: ex army traveller
If it is totally rotten, then I suggest you keep the car in one piece until you can get it braced up. I left the wood in place on mine to help hold things in shape until the last moment. I also braced the door apertures before cutting or removing anything.

Great to see this car being taken to the next level!
I hope you can bring it along to our local branch meeting near Penrith, or even better to one of our mechanics days here in Cockermouth.
Good luck with the rest of restoration, keep the pictures coming!

Right, that device connects to the battery and there is a sharp probe at one end. It works exactly the same way as a simple test light/circuit tester - my favourite tool when working with vehicle electrics. (If you connect the clip on the test light to earth the light will be illuminated when you to...

I assume you have positive earth and so, when you earthed the wire to the switch, the light came on? The polarity of the car is set by which terminal is earthed once the other terminal is connected to the wiring harness you have a difference of 12v between the "live" or "hot" wir...

Re: 1968 Police Morris Minor
You can easily fix it with some JB Weld. As the cover has been blasted and etched you should be able to get perfect adhesion and create a totally invisible, permanent and leak proof repair.
