Re: DVLA and tourer/electric conversions

One interpretation of the rules is that any change to a monocoque shell will result in its registration be voided and a Q-plate issued. You drilled a hole to fit a light switch, seat belt, aerial, washer bottle in non-original position, run a wire through the bulkhead, fit a speaker? You modified th...

Re: DVLA and tourer/electric conversions

Currently a change of engine from petrol 803cc side valve engine to petrol V8 or twin cam will not usually affect the historic status but a change to electric will automatically lose it. The conversion industry has experienced this problem and made representation; and I suspect that this is one reas...

Re: I bought another one

If you do need to attach a tow rope to the front of the car, then the tie rods have always been the favoured place. However, be careful to not catch the number plate. I have always carried a toe rope and used it on quite a few occasions - to tow more modern vehicles that have failed to proceed. For ...

Re: Can no one provide a gearbox and brake fluid extension filler pipe

Years ago I bought a 1 litre bottle of oil. It cam with a semi-flexible pipe attached to the cap. Ever since them, I just refill it from a 20 litre drum whenever I want to top up the gearbox. Remember that you need to be able to see the filler hole to get the correct oil level. I use the same type o...

Re: Do you have an opinion on Autonomous Vehicles?

It's interesting to read the opinions, although the purpose of the topic is to find participants for the focus group. Given the number of accidents that occur every year as a result of human failings, would an autonomous vehicle be any worse? How many times do you see human idiots driving too close ...

Do you have an opinion on Autonomous Vehicles?

We have been approached by the University of Leeds to see whether any of our members would like to participate in a Focus Group discussion Autonomous Vehicles. I shall quote: One of these groups should be recruited from people who are pretty individualistic, very pro cars, but not so positive about ...

Contact the MMOC office and ask if they can trace previous owners of the car from club records. If yes, then they will be able to pass your details to any previous owners who are still about. No guarantee of results, but worth a try,

Re: rear diff temperature normal driving

It probably depends on what temperature is defined as "hot". 40 degrees C, not worried, 85 I would be; but I'm afraid that I don't know what the "normal" is.

Re: converting to 2 speed window wiper

Are you referring to a 948cc Minor 1000 with one piece windscreen, or the earlier cars? If 948 and If you fit the same motor (from a Mini) as used for the tandem wipers, then the slow speed is slightly slower than the current one and the fast speed is a lot faster. Really worth it if you use the car...

Moved from Cars for Sale to Bodywork so that replies can be posted. Put 10 Traveller owners in a room and you'll get at least 12 different answers to your question  To narrow it down a bit, is the car for show or daily use? Is it garaged or kept outside? Do you know what is on there at the mom...

Re: Slight 'growl' under acceleration

Have a look at the air filter. Has the intake silencer tube either come loose or fallen off completely? They tend to crack around the joint, and then you get a throaty roar under acceleration.

Re: Stud broke holds choke bracket

Ah, now I understand. Good job on fitting the spring. The cam acting on the throttle screw is a fast idle device and the operation you describe is completely correct. The screw should be set so that with the choke off, there should be no contact between the screw and cam; the throttle stop screw is ...

Re: Piston pressure check what you think

I'd be happy wit those. I would repeat number 2 to see if it gets any closer to the others. As those were dry readings, it would be interesting to add a little oil and repeat all readings to see if there's any significant difference; and check valve clearances on number 2; but nothing of concern.

Re: Does it do any harm adding a additive even if your heads ben done

It probably depends on what the additive is. If referring to something like Castrol Valvemaster as a lead replacement, then no harm at all in using it. If some of the snake oil miracle cures, then don't waste the money. The modification for using unleaded fuel is hardened valve seats, and the only w...

Re: Stud broke holds choke bracket

Sorry, I'm having trouble understanding to which parts you are referring. The choke cable is solid. When you pull on the knob, it lowers the jet to enrich the mixture. When you push the knob in, the jet is raised. There is no return spring involved. The cable passes through the body of the carb, not...
