Re: Disk brake conversion
I have had disc breaks for over forty years and have never needed a remote reservoir. When I did my ford based Owen Berton conversion, sometime in the late eighties, I replaced every part of the braking system and filled it with silicone brake fluid. I have never needed to clean out the rear cylinde...

Re: Help - Bolts for 948 engine to engine stand.
Hi, I am not sure how you are going to attach a stand to your engine. I assume it has arms with long slots to allow you to bolt onto the back of the flywheel. If so you will need appropriately long enough bolts of the same thread as the clutch bolts. I do not know there size but it would be somethin...

Re: Oil filter and Oil Change
The only time I ever had an oil leak at that point was when I changed the rubber seal about twenty years ago. I have never touched it until
last year when I fitted a spin off conversion.

Re: First Time Welding - What Equipment?
Good on you, mate. Practice makes perfect, and once you have mastered it you will wonder what all the fuss was about. I agree that a mid range MIG welder would be perfect for the job. Machine mart is as good as any supplier, and Clark is a good reliable manufacturer. The hardest part of welding is t...

Re: Rusted Boot lid and Wings
You need to take a deep breath and chip away the paint. It may be that the boot lid is not holed to a great extent and the rust can be neutralised with Trustan or similar. Fill and repaint. The wing may be more problematical. Again if the metal is not holed you could do the same. Otherwise it will n...

Re: Another Traveller Project
Probably not strictly legal, but when I took my engine out for a rebuilt I replaced it with a temporary engine that had no ID plate riveted to the block. I made my own using a strip of aluminium using the original engine number. This was not to deceive but for appearance only. In a month or two I re...

I have used 6mm stainless steel nuts, bolts and washers. They are cheap and easy to get, no one will know the difference.

Re: Trying to diagnose a suspension clattering sound
Hi Mickael, Finding out the cause of these noises is always difficult. It is hard for a third party to imagine the same noises that you are experiencing. If you can jack the car up and replicate the noise by pussing, pulling and banging various parts of the front suspension and steering you may be a...

Back in the 1980's my mum bought me a set of METRINCH sockets. They are a special shape and can be used on metric and imperial including Whitworth sizes. The box liner has worn out but the sockets are a good as new.

Re: Parcel Shelf Repair (1969)
From memory....I made a new shelf from a sheet of very thick packing cardboard that I borrowed from work? It was riveted onto the metal bar at regular intervals. I see no reason why you could not drill extra holes and rivet through them. I would, however, use the little washers you can get for rivet...

Just one note. Do not use washing up liquid. That stuff probably contains salt which will not be good for the sealing lip. Alternatively use shampoo or swarfiga.

Hi John. You will probably get a hundred different answers to this on. Some say the fuel pump diaphram need replacing. Someone told me that if I used E10 my carburetter would dissolve. I have only changed the flexible fuel pipe in my Traveller. My reasoning is that if anything else goes wrong I will...

Re: Stainless manifold crack
I was a welder for thirty years and it looks like the stainless pipe is welded to a steel flange. If specialist welding filler wire such as AWS309 was used it should be OK. However if an ordinary welding wire was used the joint will be prone to cracking as the stainless part age hardens. Stainless e...

Re: Oil leak spin on filter housing to metal feed pipe
I fitted one of these kits last month. The feed pipe was a struggle as it did not directly line up. I used the wooden handle of an old hammer to ease it into position. Once the thread was started it screwed on ok and I had no further issues. PTFE tape should help seal any indiscretions in the thread...
