Re: Tyre sizes

30 psi does sound a little high and I know what you mean about twitchy. When I bought my MGB four years ago the vendor had filled the tyres to 32psi all round. I attempted to take a wide roundabout at 40ish on the way home and the rear did its best to overtake the front. With the pressures reduced t...

Re: Using a Minor Everyday??

My Traveller is in everyday use and still has points and condensor, my MGB has an electronic distributor and is used almost as often as the Minor.

Neither has ever let me down.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Using a Minor for everyday transport? Certainly, no problem - that's my vote.

Re: other people's headlights

So true, Mike it can be nightmarish.

Back in the 80s most cars had warning lights on the dashboard to tell you when a bulb was not working. Why has this feature disappeared from today's cars?

Re: other people's headlights

I am constantly amazed by the levels of expertise on this site - it's positively educational. I do get alarmed when people post misguided but well-meaning advice though as this could lead to some poor soul getting a fine and points, (although this doesn't seem to apply to this thread). Thanks for al...

Re: other people's headlights

You have made me feel rather guilty about my imaginary message board, chrisryder, you're obviously a much nicer man than me.

Here's a thought though, if these things are available, how come I've never seen one?

Re: other people's headlights

Another thought chain of mine, xpress, Night Clubs have message boards with moving, digital letters. I have been tempted to adapt one for the rear window with a selection of pre-programmed messages for the car behind.

I leave the content of my imaginary message board to your imagination......

Re: other people's headlights

I can echo the good reports on here about halogen headlights, I replaced my 'glow-worms' just before winter set-in and it makes a big difference. Yellow-tinted night-driving glasses also seem to work well and improve your vision markedly although I find I no longer need them. This may be an age thin...

Re: How we are seen in USA

Roger, I live in the south so don't hear that particular abuse of the language. I used to get so cross about 'vahlance in Ahland' that I used to shout: 'VI-O-lence' and 'IRE-land' at the TV or radio. One unexpected outcome of the Peace Process has been that my long suffering Black Labrador does not ...

Re: How we are seen in USA

I blame the comprehensive schools for these silly mistakes. You don't just see them in blogs like this (after all we are all typing as best we can and not really paying too much attention, so we can be excused occasional lapses) but you also see the same errors in newspapers, magazines, on TV in sub...

How we are seen in USA

Sports Car Market magazine have selected my 1969 Minor 1000 Traveller as their Collectors Car of the week. This is through Chubb Collectors Car Insurance who are a fixture on Facebook. The usual Car of the Week will be some highly expensive piece of metal from an Auction or Concours event so this is...

Re: This made me chuckle!

There's hope for me then. Some little tinker has tried to prise-off part of my Peugeot's name-plate so it now reads Pfugeot.

I think I'll list it on eBay now, although I see that the Minor 100 badge was unsold. I wonder why?

Re: Insurance recommendation

On this subject, classic car insurance, my MGB is insured through Lancaster and expires on 23rd December. They wrote to me quoting a renewal cost quite a bit higher than this year so I shopped around online, including Lancaster, and most quotes - including theirs - were rather lower..... I took out ...

Re: what other hobbies do minor members have ????

Sleeping, eating, drinking and passing wind, mostly.
I do have a 1965 MGB tourer as well as the Traveller and a truly gigantic black Labrador (I borrowed my other hobbies from him) so I'm kept pretty busy.

That's a very generous offer, Charlie, I think I'll avoid Bridgestones then. I'm down on the Sussex coast, so a bit far away.

Thanks for the warning.

Re: Tyre sizes

That looks like sense, I think I'll put a bit more air in my tyres, replace the 155s and the dodgy spare with new 145s and see how we go.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Re: Tyre sizes

Thanks folks, although there seems to be a lot of conflicting advice here I think a pattern is emerging. My handbook states 145 OR 155/14s (which is why I asked) and it seems that it would not be possible to discover what was OE back in 1969. The Rolling Radius of the two sizes is very close - close...

Tyre sizes

Okay folks, advice please.

My little treasure (1969 Traveller) has 145/14s on the front and 155/14s on the rear. The spare is a 145/14 (with an inner tube!).

What would you do?
