Re: making a van into a campervan?
HA HA! Well if I had a van or pickup to start with id be a bit more ambitious http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/elddis-voyager-iii-14ft-long-campervan-caravette-body-/200616450098?pt=UK_Campers_Caravans_Motorhomes&hash=item2eb5ac1832 If only I had the time!!!! I'd be half tempted to stretch a rolling chassi...

Re: MOT Fail - Worst Reason?
Something dangling down from the interior mirror because it obstructed drivers view - all it was was an air freshener! HaHa. I think I would have exploded with that one. What's more annoying is knowing that some prat of a tester somewhere has passed a vehicle you've bought, that was significantly c...

Re: MOT Fail - Worst Reason?
Peter - I watched the tester take my petrol filler cap off and study it for a minute. I thought he was just being a tad "jobs worth" but I suppose it must be on the "list" of things to check. You learn something new every day!

MOT Fail - Worst Reason?
Took my pick-up in for an MOT yesterday and was somewhat miffed to be told that it was a fail because 4 split pins were missing from various castle nuts. Each now has a nylock nut on it.
What was your lamest reason for a fail?

Re: 1098cc or MG 1275cc Engine? (Fast Road/Race)
I've been wrestling with the same dilemma but it's more complicated than just whacking in the bigger engine. You will need to fork out for a custom pick-up / van exhaust with a LCB manifold, up rate the brakes to discs and worry about the handling at the speeds it will be capable of.. There's not a ...

Re: Fume vent pipe
Has it seized then or was it still running when you switched the engine off? Depending how long, fast and hard you ran the engine for will determine the extent of the damage you may have done. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but - if it hasn't seized then then the damage may be minimal. It will need...

My Welded Big End
I finally stripped down the 1098 engine my lad seized for me last year this evening and thought it warranted a short video of the final reveal. It might serve instructional if you've never seen a self-welded Con Rod. I hadn't

Re: One ConRod Different - Should it matter?
Yes. The "mature" gentleman at the engine specialists suggested that it would be better to replace the liners if one could find / afford them. They are likely to be as rare as rocking horse poo if available at all off the shelf. The standard Morris 1098 +30 pistons from Bull Motif would se...

Re: One ConRod Different - Should it matter?
Good news. :) The experts ( I hope ) recon it's unlikely that the liner is cracked, just scored, but don't recommend taking out to more than +30 from its original bore. So a +10 hone is a possibility but I will need to source a set of +30 pistons and rings. I'm looking at what that'll cost before I ...

Re: One ConRod Different - Should it matter?
Yes that makes perfect sense Chris. So how rare are liners in a 1098 then Bmcecosse? Worth relining if such were findable? Cleaned the head up last night and was amazed at the amount of white crud baked onto and around the exhaust valves.Would that be from using unleaded petrol as all I had expected...

Re: One ConRod Different - Should it matter?
I really should be working. :) The mains are 50.78mm ( Cheap Vernier ) and the bores are about 64.52 'ish mm. Which means not a lot to me other than yes 2" mains but you lost me with the "stroking" reference. [frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1304937975_12706 [/frame][frame] ...

Re: One ConRod Different - Should it matter?
Thanks MarkyB, but all of this may be a bit academic now. I have found what feels like a vertical crack in one of the liners. Its not a score mark. Starts more than half way down and ends at the top of the bore. Might explain why it was scrapped. I'll have the grinding guy look at the crank and the ...

Re: One ConRod Different - Should it matter?
Sorry - been in the garage cleaning up the block and trying to free the fused piston rings etc. this evening. No luck so have left to pickle overnight. I am guessing that it's an OLD 1098 midget engine based purely on how rusty everything is but no idea really. The block is marked - MOWOG 4 with 207...

Re: One ConRod Different - Should it matter?
 - Should have checked all 4 rather than just looking at the ones either side of the lighter coloured one in the photos. So I might as well just stick a new set of piston rings on, clean it all back up and put it together. - Thanks[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1304788666_12706 [/f...

One ConRod Different - Should it matter?
Advice required - Bought a scrap, seized, 1098 Midget Engine last year to rebuild as a spare. ( The engine number plate is missing ) Stripped it down & freed it up last night / this morning. Been inspecting & cleaning the parts prior to replacement if required before the rebuild. It was seiz...

Re: Wipers Want to Work but Wont.
You have got power on the other lead I assume? I can see it is connected but it also needs to be live. My wiring diagram says it comes from the switch on the dash before it goes to earth on the other side of the same switch so it can't be live surely? But your comment encouraged me to get in behind...

Re: Van / Pick-up Seat Belt Fixing - Got a Photo?
Horrace - one day I'll have the time to strip mine down and do a " proper job " so that my pick-up looks like yours or David's will when he has finished his. Mine is a tad rough but structurally sound - I think! I just want to get some use out of mine, taking my lad to and from college, wi...
