Re: Dublin Street Video 1965
Minors were assembled in Dublin from CKD kits at Brittains of Portobello (not far from where I live! :D ). I believe they were put together there, then trailered a few miles up the road to have the engines put in! Afaik, the first ever non-German Beetle was assembled in Dublin. I'm sure someone with...

Did you use poly bushes? They tend to squeak unless you grease them before putting them in.

And also a rubber strip across the top of the bulkhead, which as far as I can tell does nothing.

Re: 803 head on 1098 engine?
Hi All I'm cutting down a long story here, but basically, after problems with my 1098cc engine I have been told after having unleaded valve seats fitted that it is in fact a 803cc head!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is this possible 1098 engine with an 803 head, I checked the valves with another 1098 engine and the...

Re: 1098 engine, 1275 gearbox?
Well first gear sounding like a bag of spanners isn't a problem compared to 1st and 2nd sounding like a chainsaw and 4th popping out when I slow down! I have my eye on a local 1275 box for sale, which is why I ask. I guess my best bet is to go with it and refurb my own 1098 box at my leisure,...

1098 engine, 1275 gearbox?
Hi, Is it possible to pair a 1098 Minor engine with a 1275 Midget gearbox? Or are there any other gearboxes that are a 'straight swap'? I have a feeling I'm going to need a new box soon, and MGs seem to be more common (and therefore secondhand parts cheaper and more readily available) in Ireland tha...

Re: Funny dynamo problem...
The old regulator was covered in black soot and letting off little wisps of smoke. I've cleaned it up and popped it back on, and everything's working now!

Re: Funny dynamo problem...
No, I disconnected the E terminal earth wire to connect the meter to it. The 18v was passing through my meter to earth.

Re: Funny dynamo problem...
Sorry, what I meant was that the voltage from control box E terminal to battery earth was the same as the voltage from the linked dynamo terminals to earth. There was no drop, and so I assumed everything in between was in order. :-? The voltage I'm getting across the dynamo terminals is roughly 18v,...

Funny dynamo problem...
Hi there, My dynamo isn't charging. I have tested it by connecting the two terminals with a bit of wire and measuring the voltage between those and the battery. It seems fine, giving up to 18v (with brand new brushes). It gives the same reading at the connection to the control box, and at the contro...

Re: How to Mount Stereo In Glovebox?
I have been thinking of a good stereo set up for my car to me the best option seems to be fitting some two 6x9 speakers in the front kidney panels and some two 3.5 or 4inch on the rear parcel shelf, how does that sound ? Just make sure your 6x9s can fit in the kidneys before cutting anything. My 5&...

Re: How to Mount Stereo In Glovebox?
Hi Tom, My head unit is just placed loose in the glovebox for the timebeing, with holes cut out of the back of the lining for the wires to pass through. Something like this: http://cgi.ebay.ie/UNIVERSAL-SINGLE-DIN-STEREO-MOUNTING-BRACKET-/140543367785?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item20b9099a69 mo...

Re: Crankcase breathing
Well mine certainly doesn't have that! Nor has it twin carbs for that matter. It's a 1098 block which someone has stupidly added a 948 head to, and has the standard (rubbish) breathing arrangement. Is there any reason why the dizzy advance inlet in the carb spacer posted by Declan earlier couldn't b...

Re: Crankcase breathing
If you do that - you will need to limit the 'suck' by only having a 2mm hole for the fumes to go through - and even then - it WILL upset the idle. Would doing this make it impossible to get the idle back to normal by adjusting the mixture and idle speed? My engine isn't smoky at all, just drips oil...

Re: Crankcase breathing
Mine is currently connected to the air filter, and yes, it gets splattered and clogged very quickly. I also have a slow oil leak which I imagine better breathing would cure. Do you have a photo or diagram of where I need to drill?

Crankcase breathing
Hi there, I have been reading over the forums and it seems that alot of people suggest that running a pipe from the rocker cover breather to the carburettor (rather than to the air filter) helps with crankcase pressure, and therefore oil leaks. My newbie question is thus: How the heck do you do that...
