Regular Breakdowns

Hello again, My 1956 Series II has been giving me problems for a while now. It starts instantly, even if it hasn’t run for a few months, but after about 6 miles it starts to hesitate and not respond to the throttle. It then completely shuts down and rolls to a halt. After about 4 or 5 minutes, it wi...

Re: Value of my my 1956 totally original Ser. II Saloon

Dear Audrey1955, MarkyB, aupickup and Dean. Thank you for your comments. I note what you say about the condition of the vehicle. Mine is 4 door by the way. The car is completely original with no alterations except that my uncle fitted flashing indicators in about 1959 but the semaphore indicators st...

Value of my my 1956 totally original Ser. II Saloon

My 1956 Series II has been in my family since its original purchase by my uncle. I have known it all of my life. I inherited the car a few years ago and have re-registered it and got it through its last MOT. The vehicle is a four door 803cc saloon and completely original in every respect. Everything...

Aluminium Registration Plates

Can anyone tell me when the aluminium number plates with raised lettering, where first used please? Would they be right on a 1956 Moggy? My car has white plastic original numerals but they have broken up with ageing. I do prefer the look of the aluminium personally.

Number Plate Letters/Numbers

My Series II has separate white 3 1/2" raised digits on its original 1956 registration plates. They are formed in a raised 'V' shape. Does anyone know if spare letters are still available. I am trying to repair rather than replace my rear plate as some of the letters have broken up with age.

Outside Parking or Garage

May I ask what the general view is, of keeping a Moggy outside but under a cover. My garage only takes one car but there is very secure (behind locked gates) parking on my gravel driveway. My other car has to be garaged as it is a convertable and I do not want the hot sun and winter weather damaging...

If it is sticky in a very short period then it may be suffering from burnt oil residue (sticky stuff) on the clutch.
It is certainly not so much of a problem, if not left for a couple of weeks.

Sticking Clutch

Before I aquired him, my 1956 Series II had stood in a garage for 23 years without use. I have driven it around an orchard whilst I am working on getting it through an MOT. Sometimes, after not being started (or driven) for a week or two, the clutch seems to stick. From starting the engine, I can’t ...

Would you buy the 1.5 watt or the 2.4 if the car will be standing quite a while without being used?

Re: Fitting Seat Belts

My 1961 Morris came with front seat belts The were fitted badly to the floor. Now in the bin . I fitted front belts to my Mini back in the 60's but this time I will use E.S.M. in Stonegate, Sussex to fit them for me. They are very helpful and even told me where I can buy classic type belts (from ht...
