Re: Thread sizes
Our prayers have been answered! Better get on fleabay to find a load of whitworth & AF spanners! Better than that ... next time you are at the car-boot and someone is selling sockets ... have a fish through and as soon as you find a whitworth, ask them "how much for the box" ... often...

Re: Car security
Do not, whatever you do buy a steering wheel lock ... I used to have one on my MG-TD (VW kit car) and all that happened was that the 'person' used it as a lever to destroy the steering wheel :o Your best bet is to do some rewiring, I've found that combining a relay with the main power (so that you h...

Re: Transmission stuck in 4th gear
It can be something as simple as part of the 'anti-rattle' mechanism having fallen down at the gear lever - and jamming it. Hence my suggestion to remove the remote control and try directly on the selector forks. Certainly also worth trying as Ray suggests - in the side cover - just be careful to n...

T Cut is your friend. Yeah that's what I thought but not really happy having a mop at it and to be honest the paint needs chips respraying, previous owners non matching paint touch ups and there's a some rust that needs repairing so don't really know if it's really worth t cutting maybe leave it a ...

Re: Transmission stuck in 4th gear
Aaah, take it apart, what's the worst that can happen :) Rebuilding gearboxes is actually pretty fun, but to begin with I'd start with draining the oil and then removing the gearbox cover in the floor, then the inspection plate off the side and take a look ... you may find that you can manipulate th...

Re: Rear spring mount falling apart
The rear spring hangers are fairly common to go ... while you have the springs off you can also swap out the bushes, personally I go for poly bushes, they give a firmer ride but the rubber ones seem to perish inside a year or two. I'd also go investigating the root cause of the rot ... what state ar...

Re: cutting out
I would be tempted to check for a sticking float valve ... take the top of the float chamber off, push the pin on the float out then pull out the valve and check that it's not got a flat spot on it - it should be conical all the way down, there should be no 'shoulder' half-way down it.

Re: Fitting a passenger lock barrel to a 2-door
Once you have that out, taking the lock off and apart is a pretty simple process ... just beware of the centreing spring when you pull the barrel out, it's under tension and pretty small ;) The next thing I'd like to share, the thing that took me hours of faffing to work out, is how to get that flip...

Fitting a passenger lock barrel to a 2-door
So I searched a while on the net to see if I could find any tips on how to go about changing the barrels on my 2-door ... sadly I didn't find much of use and have just spent the entire evening battling with a door lock! As a result I figured it would be a good idea if I shared some of the things I d...

Re: Wanted: advice on how to spray (West Midlands)
Thanks guys, these instructions seem useful :) Although there's nothing quite as handy as someone peering over your shoulder and pointing out where you could do something slightly differently & get a better/easier result. I'll see if I can get in contact with the branch local to the car and find...

Wanted: advice on how to spray (West Midlands)
So, it's becoming apparent that my best bet for getting my shell sprayed in cellulose is for me to do it myself (apparently it's against european law to spray celly commercially & I really dont want it painted with 2K or other professional-only process) ... I've always wanted to be able to spray...

Re: Alain's 1969 2 Door
It's looking like I'm going to have to teach myself to spray, since chatting with a couple of places they tell me that it's now against the law to spray cellulose commercially, however you can still buy it for home use ... oh well, I guess I may as well have a go at it, what's the worst that can hap...

Re: STUPID QUESTION ABOUT AXLE STANDS
Personally I like to give the car a good shove from a few angles once it's up on stands ... if it doesn't move (at all) then I'm happy to get under it ... if it wobbles I start adjusting things until it doesn't. Spare wheels & removed wheels thrown under the sills are an essential belt & bra...

It's worth checking with your supplier WRT the pin ... I know when I replaced mine a while back they had a batch which had been machined to the wrong size. If you are using a reputable supplier then they should be able to send you a fresh set that are the correct size (ESM did this for me at no extr...

Re: Restorations That Do Not Quite Hit the Mark
I called my local automotive paint supplier earlier, and they said that they cant find the bright orange with pink spots paint anywhere ... do you have the paint-code for that, it sounds like quite a good colour scheme
