I bought a couple of similar springs for the Discovery 2 which had a similar problem. Firstly I couldn't get them to fit and secondly the springs were so strong I was terrified that if one of them slipped whilst I was trying to fit it then the windscreen could get cracked. They went in the bin.

I should have posted earlier. The last two notifications in my list have come through on e-mail.

I have stopped receiving email notifications about new posts. The last one I had seems to have been the evening of 2nd September.

I have a Pertronix Flamethrower coil from Martin Jay at Distributor Doctor as well, and it has never given me a problem in the 7 years I have had it. Martin is the man to go to for all ignition related products.

Yes, that's exactly why. It also fixed everything in position so there could be no vertical movement of either the pin/bolt or the two mounting points.

I got a (rather blurred) picture from above, three similar ones of the lever/rod connection and one of the pivot pin (the latter 4 being on their side for some reason). This happened to us shortly after we got the car about 16 years ago. It took the AA about an hour to sort and I still keep the bit of wire he used in the back just in case.

I'll go and get some photos for you so you know what you are up against.

As you say, it was the red ignition light on the right, not the amber light on the left. My mistake.

Our car has a dynamo but without any additional electrical items such as a radio or USB charging points, and the lights weren't on.

Everyone's probably too depressed to get out of bed.

The other thing that might help is a clay bar as it may remove some of the surrounding contaminants in the paint as well.
