Re: Fuel Economy
We have done 10K miles in our 1959 Traveller with a 1098cc engine and have averaged just over 40 mpg in that time. We once got 54 mpg on an uninterrupted motorway trip to Yorkshire. Only 51 mpg coming home as there was some congestion.

Re: fume vent dumping oil
I would suggest that you will not experience any noticeable problems with the engine. I have run Minors with the old metal rocker cover oil filler cap, the sealed plastic cap, the breathable plastic cap and aftermarket caps fitted to aftermarket rocker covers and never experienced any noticeable pr...

Re: fume vent dumping oil
Oh dear, it looks very much like I have a vented oil filler cap which, from what you have said, is the wrong one for my setup. What are the implications of having the wrong cap? What would the symptoms of this be and, more importantly, will I have caused any permanent damage to anything? It has run ...

Re: fume vent dumping oil
Richard,
That is brilliant - thank you. It all makes sense for the first time.
The only thing I need to double check now is that I have the correct oil filler cap. How can you tell a non-vented/unfiltered type from the vented/filtered type?
Keith

Re: fume vent dumping oil
Thank you for your interesting post IslipMinor. My 1098 cc Traveller has exactly the arrangement you show in your post with the second oil filler cap pictured and the paper air cleaner. The only difference is that my side vent tube goes up between the exhaust and the bottom hose and then bends over ...

Re: Hoses query
Does anyone have any recommendations for the best quality (not necessarily the cheapest) hoses or supplier to use? Are silicon hoses worth considering?

Re: Low voltage at fuel pump?
It's only been 2-3 months since it was last driven but it hasn't been driven must since October so I guess that was enough to cause this problem.ManyMinors wrote: ↑Sat Aug 11, 2018 7:43 am That's a good result. You hadn't mentioned that your car had been standing unused.

Re: Low voltage at fuel pump?
I took the top off the float chamber and gave everything a good clean. It is the newer type with the plastic float which presses directly onto an aluminium plunger with a rubber seal on the end. I gave Burlen a call and their technical department said that if the car has been sat unused for a while,...

Not being notified about new posts
Once again I am not receiving notifications of new posts. I'm not even getting notifications that people have posted to topics I created. The last one I received was 09:41 on 30/07/18.
Could someone take a look please. Thanks.

Re: Low voltage at fuel pump?
Thanks everyone. I checked with Burlen and the pump should work between 9.5V and 13.5V so the voltage isn't an issue. I have disconnected the fuel pipe from the carb and the pump is pumping as expected. I didn't measure flow rate but I very quickly filled a 1/4 of a large coffee jar with petrol. Jus...

Low voltage at fuel pump?
For the first time ever our Traveller refused to start today. It was turning well on the starter and there was a strong spark at each plug. However the fuel pump didn't seem to be pumping as there was no clicking. It is a relatively new electronic SU pump which has given no problems up until now so ...

Re: NEW OWNER PLEASE HELP!!!
Firstly welcome to Morris Minor ownership. Secondly don't lose hope. I know how you feel - it can be depressing when you fix one thing and another goes wrong, especially on a 'new' car, but everything is fixable. Our fuel pump packed up within 3 weeks of buying a Traveller that had only just finishe...

I had been following that post but I don't think I have a breather port on my carburettor to do what you did.pgp001 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 18, 2018 7:29 pm You might be interested in what I have just done with great success.

Re: Oil dripping from air filter housing
Sorry for a metric measurement but a 3mm drill bit fits it perfectly. My engine is the later type that once had the Positive Crankcase Ventilation system fitted but was removed by someone, so not sure it would be of any use if you restrict it. It would most likely start leaking more from the rear c...
