Hi, I'm just corroborating what I told a fellow MMOC member. That is: A 12g940 head with the exhaust valves properly recessed is a good improvement on a standard 1098.
Opinion welcome - also would anyone recommend a needle change on a standard carb for this change.
Many thanks

12G940 cylinder head with recessed exhaust valve seats to fit 1098.
Hi, re advertising this head after it's been sitting on my shelf for a while. It's a 12g940 which runs on 1098 blocks if the exhaust seats are recessed into the head with a standard cam. It's a better head than the standard 12g202 on a 1098 - I ran it for years until I went for a 1275 with 266 cam e...

Re: Fitting a 3.9 diff to a 1969 2-door Minor
Renewing the seal sounds easier with this method of keeping the diff in its carrier on the axle, using the road wheel. I did the suggested spring balance and string method and after crushing the first spacer by sailing past 140ft/lbs in an instant. My advice would be to buy some spare crushable spac...

Thanks for recommending the HIF44 and starting point BDL needle for starting to set up. Can you shed a bit of light on the other wonderings?

Tweaking 1275 post rebuild
Hi, Happy Xmas to all. I've had the joy of doing some longer "running in" journeys and it's raised a few questions. The engine is a rebuilt 1275 with 266 camshaft, Minispares Stage 3 head, maniflow inlet and lcb exhaust, with K and N filter. It's currently on a HIF38 carb with AAA needle. ...

Re: mini heater and heated rear window
Welcome to the forum. I have fitted a heated rear window which is excellent. This was one with the heater wires in the glass not a self adhesive one - if they're still available. The screen fitting I found really challenging on my own and in the end went to a auto glass firm in Bath who took it on a...

Re: Remote Oil Filter Location
Thank you for the fascinating posts above. I've learned loads - from historical and technical perspectives. The only way I can build on what I've learned is to say that I do have an oil temp gauge fitted and look forward to seeing what it shows as well as making sure the thermostat on oil cooler cir...

Re: Remote Oil Filter Location
Hi, if I was starting from scratch I wouldn't bother at all. If I was still enthusiastic I'd follow Phil's example.
As I've been building this I am where I am and it's a hobby.

Re: Remote Oil Filter Location
Thanks Phil for the assurance that as a pressurised system I can fit the remote filter above the engine as in the repurposed battery compartment. So far as filter location is concerned I have it located below the radiator and have modified the front panel by removing a segment of it so front of cool...

Remote Oil Filter Location
I'm planning to locate the remote oil filter assembly together with associated oil thermostat in space vacated by battery. ( see separate post). Oil cooler radiator positioned in and below front panel) Is there any technical reason why the filter assembly shouldn't be above the engine in the positio...

Re: Best cover for Morris Minor Convertible
Hi During last two years my moggie has lived outside. I went for the best moderate priced cover I could. It was tailored for moggie, has a non abrasive lining, was breathable and had a smart grey external cover. It also had adjustable straps below. Although I've got no direct comparison I would say ...

Re: Relocating Battery
Thank you all for your replies. I'd like to do this, using 50mm2 or 70mm2 cable, venting the battery as suggested. I'm having difficulty locating a suitable fused earth cable ( it's -ve earth wired.) Given it's a safety critical item I'd prefer to buy new. What amperage fuse should it have? It's a s...

Relocating Battery
I'm wondering about relocating the battery to the boot in order to create space for a remote oil filter and thermostat as well as brake and clutch fluid reservoirs and windscreen washer reservoir. The engine is originally a 1275 A+ with filter above starter motor and space is limited - servo positio...

Re: 1275 clutch release bearing noise
Sorry to cause confusion. There are two fans side by side on the engine side of the radiator. The radiator is a conventional one. Not aluminium. The fans suck air into the engine bay. So the car can stand still at fast idle with a stable temperature for a long time. The shrouding or fan casings are ...

Re: 1275 clutch release bearing noise
I fitted two fans, both sucking air into the engine bay with a thermostatic switch and additional electric switch. Between them they create quite a breeze in the engine bay. Last summer's heat prompted me to add the second one. I do wonder to what extent the shrouding etc blocks airflow, however I w...

Re: 1275 clutch release bearing noise
Thanks Phil, as it has turned out on the second run of the car - it's only just finished after a few years - I realised that the noise did coincide with taking power from the engine and slipping the clutch. However...On checking today in the daylight I found I could provoke the noise by sharp revvin...

1275 clutch release bearing noise
Having finally got Moggie back on road and ( briefly) problem free I'm wondering if I've made a big mistake... The engine is a 1275 with an ESM flywheel that takes an uprated minor type clutch with an MG1275 gearbox. It has a hydraulic clutch actuating mechanism. I fitted a roller bearing rather tha...

It's good there's no step and in a while I can come back with the measurements which will give some data re ovality and wear overall.
