Re: Prop shaft too short?
Well its official, Brad (the Moggie) has been driven down to the local garage and they have confirmed the front spring hangers have been welding in the wrong place. It looks like a little more surgery with a welding torch is needed to make it better!!! Thanks everyone for the help with this one, wit...

Re: Prop shaft too short?
I will pop out this evening to have a another measure. Looking at the prop, eye level, it does look pretty parallel to gearbox, but I will lift the nose a little to improve the angle. I must have a stretchy metal tape as even when I plumb line points to the floor I still can't get the measurements t...

Re: Prop shaft too short?
Sorry didn't explain it very well, I hooked the tape measure over the very front edge of the front spring hanger and measured back to the centre of the shackle hole in the chassis. I did it a couple of times as well just to double check the measurements. I will check it again, centre hole to centre ...

Re: Prop shaft too short?
Finally the gap between the top of the rear wheel and the wheel arch. The car has been off the stands for several hours, but still may ease down a little, but still looks a little out of place... may be wrong![frame]

Re: Prop shaft too short?
Back again, had a look at the gap between bellhousing and steering rack... actually resting on the rubber inspection cover. Took some photo's of the spring hangers and the rear wheel. I also measured the distance between the front spring hanger and rear Passenger side= 47.25", drivers side= 46....

Re: Prop shaft too short?
Hi guys, I did compare the new towers with the originals and they seemed to be exactly the same (height and angles). I had a peek between the bellhousing and the steering rack that gap is very close too, not sure how much clearance is needed between them, but if the engine is much further back the b...

Re: Prop shaft too short?
Sorry, do you mean the engine is a bit too high? I looked at the gap between the bottom of the gearbox spline and the cross member, this is very small approx .25 inch. The engine towers are brand new from Bull Motif. I still think the problem is towards the rear as the angle of the clutch bearing sh...

Re: Prop shaft too short?
This is really weird, all the bits seem to be the right length, sort of in the right place and where they should be.
I will go and have another thunk about this. Thanks for the quick response.

Re: Prop shaft too short?
This work lark really interferes with Morris Minor time!!!! I have managed to measure from the prop side of the diff flange plate to the back of the diff casing where it bolts to the rear axle. A straight line measurement between these two points across the bottom of the diff is 7.5inches or 185 mm....

Re: Prop shaft too short?
Hi guys, well swapped over the gbox mounting brackets, even tried lifting the car under the diff.... still no luck. The diff has been replaced, but as I have just locked up the barn, I will whip out my trusty tape measure tomorrow and do some more measurements on the length of the diff shaft to flan...

Re: Prop shaft too short?
Pikey, just popping out to swap the gbox mountings over, funily enough I don't have a picture of how they should fit. The Haynes manual has a picture of a single unit that does both sides, rather than two separate ones.

Re: Prop shaft too short?
I have attached the measurements for the various fixed alignment points posted earlier in the thread. The measurements are as accurate as I can get them, hopefully within 1 mm. All points plum bob marked from the points on the car to a flat floor below then measured. It looks a little off square, bu...
