Re: engine paint

If it's the stuff from ESM in a small can, then it seems to go straight on. I have painted my whole engine and gearbox on bare surfaces. Primer probably wouldn't hurt, but that requires more patience :P

Re: What i did today...

I too will be fitting a 5 speed box, along with a new engine, over the easter like you Chris, although I don't have the luxury of a week off! I will be trying trying my best to get it done in two weekends, so who knows if I will have time! I bought a new gearbox cover in fibreglass from Jonathon at ...

Re: Ominous axle knocks.....

They are like you describe Chris. The Birmingham centre and others list them as EN24 'Competition' shafts. Mine are splined at the Diff end like the standard Morris ones, but instead of a cast-in hub flange they have a machined EN24 item that goes onto the hub end of the shaft with a key way, and is...

Re: Ominous axle knocks..... SOLVED!

Just an update on the situation with the diff problem. It's sorted. It turned out to be nothing to do with the diff, which makes me happy! My dad and me had just bled the brakes, so we decided to check out the noise. We put the car up on axle stands, put the handbrake on, started the car and did a ...

Re: What i did today...

Those designs look awesome Chris. Where are you studying? Must be a good uni/college. The only engineering course I could get on was a day release at Colchester in Essex, about 30 miles from where I live, in Ipswich. We have nice machines but the CAD/CNC side is pretty crud. If i could do designs li...

Re: What i did today...

Hey Chris, What CAD did you use to knock up that design-looks nicely rendered and shiny! I use Autodesk Inventor at work and college, which is OK, but i'm trying to lean more towards Autocad or Solidworks. I keep meaning to get a copy of that Vizard book for my new 1330 project too..... Seems expens...

Re: Ominous axle knocks.....

My diff wasn't bought from eBay. I got it from a vehicle trust in Cornwall who had broken a rotten Wolseley 1500 up and they informed me it was a nice one. They were pretty good folks and helped out a fair bit with postage etc.. Turns out its pretty whine free. I did check the backlash before it wen...

Re: Ominous axle knocks.....

Thanks guys for the advice on this. I've found the spacer on ESMs site. Is it a straightforward job once the propshaft flange is removed? I guess I should replace the diff oil seal while I'm there? I plan to do it within the next couple of weeks as work is very busy ATM so evening workshop time is t...

Ah OK, I don't think i would stretch to those luxuries anyway :).

Are the details of the campsite on the forums or am I just being dumb, as I can't find them.

Re: Ominous axle knocks.....

Hi bmc, never thought of that. The axle u bolts appear tight and have been double nutted by a previous owner, although i just discovered the driver side leaf spring has 6 leaves and the other side has 5. Hmmmm... When i next get a chance i will investigate that nut. How tight should it be? A windy g...

Re: MOT in France. tag along. with a car or not?

Yes, I do agree with you MarkyB, it is a big risk to take a rebuilt car on long distance runs. We have a couple of rallies around here in May that I will be taking the car on. If all goes well and no major problems are thrown up after a few hundred miles, then I'm probably going to take the plunge a...

Ominous axle knocks.....

Hi, I have just upgraded to a W1500 diff and EN24 shafts from Birmingham MMC, which are probably way overkill for my new 1275 A+ that's due to be fitted soon. After taking the car on a couple of 20 mile plus trips, I started to notice a clonk coming from the rear when I accelerate/decelerate. But it...

Re: MOT in France. tag along. with a car or not?

Hi James.. At last!!! Someone nearby with a mog! Where exactly are you? I'm just out of Rushmere in Ipswich with a '70 4 door in black with silver minilites. Been a member for a year but had a maroon 4 door since i was 15, lost interest when i realised it was made from underseal and fibreglass, then...

Re: Ital 1275 starter ring gear

Hi guys been away a few days. Back now. Declan, thanks a lot for posting those pictures up of the heater tap alteration. That's a pretty good idea and as I have access to steel pipe and welder, I may knock something up like you, except weld rather than solder, as I really like the idea. I will put s...

Re: Ital 1275 starter ring gear

Wow! Thanks for all that advice guys! Been searching web for ages to no avail. I suspected it had a minor flywheel but I thought that they only had four holes where mine has 6. I will get on the web and order my new parts! After more searching at local motor spares shops, I have found that I can't b...

Ital 1275 starter ring gear

Hi guys, I have acquired a 1275 Ital/Ford Type 9 box to go into my car soon. I have removed the clutch and also flywheel from the engine as the ring gear was pretty shot too. Two problems- one is clutch: I have a new minor clutch that fits the flywheel perfectly, but the Ford box has 23 splines, and...

Any comments on Dynax S50/ Neutrarust?

Hey guys, I'm pretty new to the forums/ club and I own a maroon '69 4-door, which I will be selling soon. I will hopefully be replacing it with a Moggie needing slightly less of the old TLC before I can drive in a month or two (The chauffeur will have to make do for now!) Anyway, getting to the poin...
