Re: Where to Start? - New to Welding
Brace the door opening...ok no problem that gets a mention in the book. Do I work from the inside out, or the outside in?

Re: Tips re Eyebolt Replacement
Cutting the fulcrum pin, hmmmm a bit late now. I(t's a very awkward spot to get into, my angle grinders quite big. I couldnt get the disk to bear on the eyebolt itself, I didnt think of cutting the fulcrum pin. Good point.
I had to remove the torsion bar because the eyebolt was worn?

Tips re Eyebolt Replacement
I thought I might add my experience of replacing the front suspension eye bolt to the collective knowledge to help somebody not to make the same mistakes I did. When dismantling the front suspension to get at the eye bolt the torsion bar can be very difficult to remove. Detach the front swive...

Re: Top trunnion pivot pin
I'm starting to come to the same conclusion myself! The castellated nut is just at the "belting it with a hammer point of no return" so I may stop there. I have a hydraulic press how about taking the whole damper off and then pressing it out with that, it'll apply 2 tons?

Top trunnion pivot pin
Hello again. More work on the front suspension. I'm replacing trunnions top and bottom. I've got the swivel pin off by unscrewing it from the top trunnion. I've undone the locknut, removed the bolt and taken off the top trunnion. I can't get the upper pivot pin to budge from the damper arm. My split...

Torsion Bar Won't Budge
Can anyone give me some advice on removing the offside torsion bar. I cant get the rear lever to slide forward on the splines like it says in the workshop manual. It's rusted solid I think and then glued up with mastic sealant. I'm actually trying to replace the front eye-bolt as its worn. I've dise...

Correct colour for wheels and radiator grill
Hello, I have a late type Series II black 4 door saloon. I want it to be as original as possible. What colour should the wheels and radiator grill be? I have them cream but I have a feeling that's not right.
Re: Seatbelts
thank you for the comprehensive reply, it must have taken ages to type it all out!
Seatbelts

Re: Sudden non starter
Hmm interesting result. I think it was a combination of two things. The carburettor piston was sticking so I took it out and cleaned it up and got it moving again She started but ran as rough as a badger's bum and was only firing on two cylinders. This eventually cleared of its own accord (damp?) an...

Sudden non starter
Hi I've a series II with an 803 engine. I took her out for a run and she went absolutely fine with no sign of problems. I left her parked in the drive for the afternoon and when I came out to put her away she wouldn't start. She'll fire a couple of times and then just die. There's a good spark. I to...

Hmm yes, it seems like that could be the casePSL184 wrote:most likely layshaft bearings as the noise goes when you press the clutch pedal in.
I've only just got her back on the road, I don't fancy taking her off the road to get the gearbox out and then pull that to bits

Noisy 803cc Gearbox
Hi I have a late type Series II with an 803cc engine and gearbox. The car has lain idle for 20 years and I have recently got her back on the road. I changed the oil in the gearbox and put in Castrol 30SAE just like it says in the workshop manual and 90EP gear oil in the back axle. I'm getting a vibr...

Re: Flushing the fuel system
Clean the filter in the fuel pump. If it's more than that - you will need to take the tank out and clean it with pebbles and paraffin (or diesel) - but remove the tank level sender first! It's not the fuel pump, I've cleaned that out. Ok so remove the tank & sender, put in a half gallon of dies...

Re: Flushing the fuel system
Erm half a gallon of diesel? You just put it in the tank?
My car's been off the road for 20 years and keeps stopping with fuel starvation, a quick suck on the pipe generally gets it going ,but I want to do a proper job and make sure I don't get any more problems.
