Re: Logging on to members zone

I tried as well.I used password and it came up with 'the forum doesnt exist'. I wanted to contact admin to advise that I have transferred my traveller to my son , who has/is joining club. So how do I do it?

Re: Arrggg.. removing flller plug on back axle

I've enjoyed this exchange of views especially as I am about to try to get my axle topped up. In the past I have never been able to get the plug undone- and I've tried everything. This time I'll have to get the underseal off first. What I dont understand is why the plug has tapered sides- a slanting...

Pictures of Wiring

Having looked at the top entry in this Forum for Wiring diagrams, may I suggest that in any Minor Matters articles on wiring, especially for modifications, then digrams such as this are worth any thousand words . I recently sent corrections to the Club Manual suggestions for wiring in an Alternator....

Re: Indicator stalk.

Cant be sure about this , but I vaguely remember a ceramics expert saying you can dissolve old superglue with nail polish remover ( acetone I think she said). It may not work but will smell good. It might affect the plastics- if only the lens, then well and good, but if the black holder ....

Re: Battery types revisited

Thanks everyone- problem solved. I went to an Agricultural dealer who had a good powerful, sealed battery. He looked at my dead Halfords 038 and tactfully suggested that it was a pretty poor battery. Hopefully I wont forget to keep this well charged in the winter ( the car hibernates - too much salt...

Just discovered that our nearest CostCo is over 100 miles away. Any other suggestions?

Re: Battery types revisited

A small battery in a large battery case looks out of place and the battery clamp will probably not fit. What is important is that the posts are the correct way round depending on whether the car is pos or neg earth. If the car is pos. earth then with the posts at the back of the battery the pos. po...

Re: Battery types revisited

First off - charge the battery for a good 48 hours - and try it. And get yourself a solar charger from Maplins - and use it next winter....... Buy the cheapest battery Coscto will sell you - it will be fine. If there is a size choice at the same price - take the larger one, but otherwise ANY batter...

Re: Ignition Timing for 1098cc unleaded

Thanks for the discussion. Can see a way forward - but first need to get a new battery, cos engine wont start due to worn out one - see my question under 'Electrical' - anyone know of a good make?

Battery types revisited

Last forum I could find on this was in 2004. I need a replacement battery for 1098 Traveller. Last one was a Halfords Type 038. Now I dont know why I chose 038 since this numbering means nothing to me. I still have reference to Lucas batteries (RIP). This battery did not last the winter - my fault I...

Re: Cheap modifications

Nobody has suggested changing to Negative Earth - I would have thought that was No2 priority ( after seatbelts) if you want any type of noise maker. Even more important if you want real music... Classical, Jazz ... but then I am old and prejudiced. :-?

Ignition Timing for 1098cc unleaded

I think the timing is a bit out on my 1098 unleaded engine 10V (1971 Traveller) - a pit pinky and sooty plugs . I am also thinking of putting in an electronic points device. My book says Static timing should be 3 BTDC and 6 BTDC with strobe at 600rpm. Is it necessary to revise these figures in light...

Re: getting the steering wheel off

Just done this for my first time in 40 years. Measured the nut with a pair of simple dividers . Borrowed a 33mm socket from a farmer. Next day went to Halfords but they only had impact type sockets, with thick walls- could have been too tight a fit inside the wheel. Went to local tool distributor an...
