I'm a novice re: Travellers etc...however, when mine had a similar problem (at different times) it was diagnosed as being because of: 1. The leads being old and useless leading from the spark plugs to the points bit. 2. Head gaskett going / gone. 3. The air filter being clogged beyond belief (removi...

Sounds very much like a petrol pump problem. If it isn't clicking take the cover off and gentley clean the contacts - What do you mean by 'clicking'? It's turning over okay, but then stops moving. What cover? By contacts do you mean spark plugs or the things under the round plastic cover next to th...

That wont really healp a blowing head gasket, maybe it has gone completly does it run at all. Not when I left it. It started up and I managed to drive it a few feet before it conked out again. I repeated this procedure about eight times to get it off the main road to safety. I haven't been back to ...

No power.
My Traveller has packed in before I could get it to the garage. It was driving at v slow speed until the other day when it picked up a bit. Seemed to vibrate like mad when it went into 4th. Had a new clutch in Feb, a bit of scraping after it was adjusted. Yesterday traveller lost power, then when I ...

Not really - but it's usually the other way round - water in the oil! The oil seems okay...in fact it still seems to last about the same amount of time as always. It's definitely oil in the radiator...thick sludgy goo. It has become progressively worse. Of late the car has been losing power going u...

If the head gasket is really 'gone' the engine will not keep running for 'several weeks' without doing serious damage to the block and/or head surfaces. Matt suggested trouble with the head gaskett a couple of months ago. It's had oil in the radiator for a while now. I hope it isn't too far gone. I...

Oil in radiator
From what's been said before, am I right in thinking that because there is water in my traveller's radiator, the head gaskett needs replacing? If this is the case, please can someone tell me if it is a straight forward job and what parts I will need to get to sort it? Sorry to have to revisit this t...

Did you mean it only makes the noise when the engine is under load and accelerating? Could it be a pinking noise?[/quote] No, the noise doesn't get louder when the engine is revved/under load. It''s more like something is loose and clanging against something else in connection with the pedals rather...

Broken petrol cap key and tapping
Two things: 1. Key to the petrol cap just snapped. Got remainder out of lock. Please does anyone know how I can get it replaced, or something else that might fit? Tank's on empty. 2. Tapping still happening when I accelerate. V little power when in 4th so it might be clutch related after all. Is thi...

Will check brakes everytime. Does brake fluid evaporate in hot weather? The tapping sounds as if something is loose or knocking, more than an enging noise...as if something is dangling. I put oil in recently. It does it through the gears when I accelerate, unless I do so overly slowly. It sounds as ...

Tapping/clanging on acceleration.
I sorted the brakes (no brake fluid...now topped up) but the tapping and clanging is still happening when I accelerate. I am having to drive below 30mph to avoid it. Does anyone have any idea about what might be causing it?

Little screws. Have tightend them. Rattling / tapping sound not like ball bearings. More like something swinging and hitting quite fast. Drove car today. If I accelerate at a snails's pace then no tapping. Lucky I drove like that because my brakes failed coming up to a junction (foot went down to fl...
