Traveller in Halifax

Just spotted a Traveller at Holmfield Auto Spares in Halifax. I only saw it from a distance, but there were no headlights and the woodwork looked poor. The wheels looked to be there though!

Rear Mount Cycle Carrier

Hiya! I spotted a Minor saloon in a car park yesterday with a cycle carrier attached to the back of it. It was the kind of carrier that holds your bikes high up so that the number plate is still visible. The carrier was attached to the boot lid at four points and the bumper at two points. Sure enoug...

Re: Brake Problems

Thanks, both, I'll give all that a try. I'm not sure when I'll get round to it, though, with a new baby in the house! At least I can order the switch and then, er, leave it in its box on a shelf for a month!

All the best.

Brake Problems

Hello all! I had a few problems with a squeaky wheel this time last year. Adjusting the brakes didn't help and neither did new brake shoes. Eventually a new master cylinder sorted out the problem - until now! The squeak is back. But this time I've also got another problem with the brakes. The rear b...

Re: That Machine Gun Sound

Ah, so it's not just my car then! This happened to me a few weeks ago at the end of a long drive. It was quite a warm day if I remember rightly. It happened just before I was due to stop for petrol. It took a couple of goes to start the engine again afterwards too, as if the engine was flooded. I th...

Re: Squeaky wheel

Thanks, all. Yes, the wheel's warmer than the one on the other side. All I've done so far is clean the brakes and grease them a little. That seemed to work for a day or two, but no longer than that. The garage I bought the car from gave me a guarantee, so I reckon I'll get them to sort it out. At le...

Squeaky wheel

Hello! Can anyone help me with this? There's a noise coming from one of the wheels (at the front on the passenger side) on my car. In fact, it's a combination of two noises: a kind of high-pitched whistling noise and also a deeper, rubbing noise. The noises aren't present when I first set off, but t...

Banjo Bolts

Evening all, here's a question for you. I'm working on the oil pipe that leads from the engine block to the oil filter. When I'm tightening the banjo bolt, do I need to align the holes in the bolt with the pipe to allow the oil to circulate? Or doesn't it matter, will the oil circulate anyway? All t...

Well, thanks all for your welcomes. Bmceccose, is that you driving a train. It wouldn't be at Bo'ness, would it?

What are the implications of not being able to grease the track rod ends? Does it mean the TRE's are going to get rusty or give way?

All the best.

Steering Joint

Funnily enough, I've had the wheels off my car for the first time this afternoon. I found the grease nipples at the top and bottom of the kingpins, but I couldn't find any on the steering joints Where am I supposed to put the grease?

Cheers...
