Re: Disk Brake Conversions

I had terrible problems with the disc brake conversion kit I bought. Leaking calipers, flexible hoses that were too long and fouled on the bump stops and leaking remote reservoir connections. It took a lot of effort and additional cost to make them work properly as the supplier got bored with all my...

Re: Steering rack gaiters

Yes, I had the same problem with the boots only lasting a few months. It's not a job that you want to do before every MOT so I hunted around and found a company called Bailcast who manufacture "generic" boots which fit quite easily and are much better quality. The part number you need from...

Re: Pick Up Third Brake Light

I've added a third high level brake light to our saloon after having been rear-ended! Did you claim for whiplash injuries????????? No, even though the bumper was so badly bent we couldn't open the boot, we decided not to claim. The plastic bumpered car that hit the Morris didn't look too good, appa...

Re: Pick Up Third Brake Light

I think this is a good idea. I've added a third high level brake light to our saloon after having been rear-ended!
I think many people now expect to see a high level brake light and get confused when they don't :)

Re: Young member looking to do 1st engine re-build...

I don't have a spare engine lying around, but I'm in the process of re-building one at the moment and I'm not far from you. I've been using Scholar Engines just down the A140 to do the cylinder re-bore and crankshaft grinding. Please PM me if you need more info.

Re: LCB / 3 into 1 manifold question

Nick88highline- thanks very much for the picture- it's really helpful. I'd be interested to hear what the noise levels are like when you've fitted it- I'm hoping if I get one, it won't be noisier than the 25 yr old stainless steel standard exhaust I've got at the moment! I fitted the exhaust at the...

I bought it this week so it's still on the garage floor! I will fit it tomorrow. I hope the Maniflow is not as loud as my Magnaflow exhaust on my V8 Jeep!

Re: LCB / 3 into 1 manifold question

Here is a picture of what you get from Maniflow when you ask for a complete large bore system. The tape measure is set at 24 inches. Not sure how different the small bore system is in terms of overall layout, but I guess it's very similar. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6111/6311910796_d14cb67db4.jp...

Re: Boot leakage

In my case it was the number plate light gasket.
Is you wheel arch flange completely sound? A small rust hole there can let water in.

Thanks to all. Just put it all back together again for the second time with another new head gasket but this time using Universal Blue sealant and although it's still leaking it's not as bad. I suspect I cleaned the block too well (using nylon dremel brush) and removed rust from pits on the block su...

Many thanks for all the replies so far! Just re-examined the new head gasket that went on with the recon head and noticed some ridging around the water holes. The original head gasket was more or less flat all over. I have attached a picture which hopefully shows the ridging along with thin 'scratch...

Still at a loss as to exactly what this 'reconditioning' could be ? Did they grind in the valves ? Maybe new guides fitted ? You could have done all that to your own head in about 4 hours! You will just need to complain back to the 'well know' etc (although you won't tell us who!) and demand anothe...

That pitting shouldn't cause a problem - but neither should it leak water! As for " head has been skimmed up to three quarters of the way up the second picture " - Ehh? Who did this marvellous 'reconditioning' (whatever that is - when applied to a head!) job - and have you asked them for ...

Recon cylinder head issues

Discovered I had a problem with the number 4 exhaust valve so took the head off and ordered a recon as I needed the car running asap. After spending a lot of time preparing and the fitting the recon head I noticed water weeping from the head gasket near the oil filler dipstick (shown below) a few se...

Thanks for the responses!
I think the parts I got are just not suitable for a Minor, I'm sure they are from an 1100 which has a slightly different head and more space for the bigger valve. Are there any suppliers who can offer the correct part?

Heater control valve issues

I decided to replace all the cooling hoses and radiator on my minor (AKA Ethel) so ordered up all the bits and decided to replace the rocket cover and heater valve gaskets at the same time as both were leaking. When trying to remove the rocket cover I discovered that the heater valve was slightly to...
