I see quite a few people have adapted the brake system and fitted a pedal box set up generally from the marina. Are there any advantages to this or is this just a case of wanting to be different? Cheers

Well thanks for the large response. Decided to stick with it for the time being, the only problem can happen if it's in the air whihc isn't going to happen with my driving. I checked the shackles and they are correct I can opt for longer van dampers, but I think once the springs and bushes have worn...

One more thing would fitting an anit tramp kit help reduce violent movements and protect dampers?

I've got the lowering blocks and the telescopic damper kit from bham centre. The only problem is with the lowering blocks on i now have to jack the axle up a tad from full droop to fit the dampers on which I know is not wise. Any suggestions to rectify this problem? I suppose I could skim the blocks...

Do you need to apply grease or Vaseline to the rubber gaiters on the steering and ball joints, to stop them drying out and perishing?

Not trying to sound a bit thick, but what is ribbed i.e. what does it look like. Because i'm pretty sure my gearbox is ribbed which would therefore mean I've actually got a 1098 without knowing??

I was chatting to a guy who had owned some moggies in the past and was interested in my restoration of my 948 saloon (which is taking forever). But he said that the 948 had a ribbed gearbox compared to the 1098 which has a smoothed gearbox. He said the ribbed was rarer and sought after for spridget ...

Just a thought, everyone talks about putting larger drums on their cars. But has anyone put twin leading shoes like the ones on the front onto a modified backplate on the rear of the car? I think it wouldn't be too hard to do ...

I'm restoring a 1959 4 door and both the rubber gaiters are split. My steering rack is off the car at the moment and I'm having difficulty trying to remove the tierods to be able to put the gaiters on. I'm renewing the brakes on my current restoration project 1959 1000 and there is a brake spring that stops sideways movement which i'm having great difficult fitting. Is there any method to fit these, or should i just save myself some hassle and leave them off? Cheers

what brake components are worth replacing while restoring a minor 1000 1959. I've now dismantled my brakes and it's obvious that the springs and shoes need replacing, apart from that the coppers and pistons look in all reasonable nick.
