I have recently traced the heater wiring on my 1956 splitscreen and the live heater cable runs from the voltage stabalizer on the instrument panel. This is shown in some circuit diagrams but others show it connected to the fuel guage. Its operation would not be affected by these instruments it is ju...

The best thing for cutting curves in sheet steel are aviation shears but you need three sets one for cutting to the right, one for cutting to the left and one for straight cutting. Snap-on make realy good ones but there are some good cheaper ones about. once you have used them you will never go back...

For fires inside box sections I use a fairy liquid bottle with a piece of windsreen washer pipe jammed in the top. You can usualy find a convenient hole to poke it in and give it a good squirt.

I use 0.6 and 0,8 in my sealy welder with no problems. if you find the wire is sticking back in the tip it is usualy because you are working in a bit too close. 0.6 is fine for chassis work but use a higher voltage and weld a bit slower to ensure good penetration.

As the boxing plate is invisible on the MOT many people just weld the bottom sill plate and ignore the fact that the...

I have replaced screens on various classics and in my experience using cable instead of cord is a good idea. A helper is also a good idea to apply moderate pressure to the screen as the rubber lip is being pulled through by the cable. The best lubricant I have found is neat fairy liquid and it clean...

Thanks very much everyone for your time and technical info. The diagrams will certainly do the job and I can get on with it the next time I am allowed out to play. This is a problem that I am sure must affect many repaired minors when in the past they were patched up a bit rough for the MOT. Thanks ...

Chassis Measurements

I am restoring a 1956 4 door saloon that was a bit of a basket case. The floor beneath the front leafspring mounts had been bodged on numerous occasions and I think they have crept back from their original positions when the patch ups were performed. I have replaced the rear floor pans but I need a ...
