Re: Quote from Footman James

Well I've just been ringing around for my 20yr old son who's hoping to pass on his 3rd try this month and FJ are quoting £960 FC. They are quoting the same for TPFT. Lancaster refuse to quote for anyone under 25yrs It's £435 FC with him and my 17yr old as learners and goes up to £1670 with the 17yr...

Quote from Footman James

Hi folks, I have just called Footman James to arrange an insurance quote for my 17 year old son - they were extremely efficient and responded positively to mention of the club scheme. I was quoted £541.00 TPFT for my 17 year old recently passed son on a 1098cc Minor. This is the first quote I have h...

Re: Mini 1275 GT camshaft

Cheers Roy, you told me this months ago but I have yet to find one on ebay or any of the mini forums. There are a couple of Kent cams on ebay at the moment but I think the 286 might be a bit too highly strung for what I am after, not sure if the 643 would be more appropriate? I have 1275cc, 11 stud ...

Mini 1275 GT camshaft

Can anyone advise if the above camshaft offers any performance gains over the standard 1275 camshaft, or are they essentially the same ?
Thanks,Will.

Re: am i right to be annoyed

Family / friends and car repairs tend not to make good bed fellows in my experience. Better by far to have a professsional relationship with those waiting to take your cash. They do it right, on time and at the cost and timescale agreed or you give them what for; failing that you take it away and gi...

Re: Noisy 1275 (With video!)

I know it's mad ! :D This forum should carry a Government health warning " Not to be used unless accompanied by a responsible adult !" I get the impression with these Minors that it is a case of extremes - you either put up with what you have and tinker to maintain and / or upgrade slightl...

Re: Noisy 1275 (With video!)

Please enlighten - I have seen one completed on YouTube and a complete set of parts went on ebay for £200.00. I get the impression you are not a fan or are you hinting at prohibitive rebuild costs?? :-? .

Re: Noisy 1275 (With video!)

I served my time at Vickers Engineering - we made the Trident / Vanguard Submarine and the lightwight "Chobham" armour for the Warrior Main Battle Tank. I still have contacts in the Leeds division. As for the sodium valves, I will be installing an MG turbo eventually when time and funds al...

Re: Noisy 1275 (With video!)

You have got me thinking now :), If it transpires I have an MG Metro head - I may as well utilise it. I am taking the engine out shortly to do the clutch anyway so it might be a good time to inspect and upgrade the internals too. I have a LCB manifold and MG Metro inlet manifold coupled to a Hif 44....

Re: what other hobbies do minor members have ????

6 cars thats a hobby :D what are they? The family car is a 1999 TD5 Discovery ES, my current legal (insured and tested) classic is a 1969 traveller 1275 in smoke grey. I also have a taxed and tested ( very pretty and soon for sale) Austin A30 1955 four door 950cc. I have a 1978 MG Roadster which ha...

Re: Noisy 1275 (With video!)

Cheers Roy, I have not had the car long, it was an ebay buy. The owners informed me that the cam had been changed for one from an Ital - dont know why? They called it a half race cam ?? Anyway, something is noisy as I have had some very sweet sounding A series engines. I will take your advice on the...

Re: Noisy 1275 (With video!)

The tickover is erratic and the mixture seems to be all over the place. The servo pipe was damaged and leaking at both ends but I have repaired this. I would have thought that big end bearing noise would stay audible or get noisier as the revs increase, mine seems to get quieter / smoother as the re...
