You do need to re-calibrate the regulator now though, or it is likely to over or under charge the battery. Yup, on the 'final adjustment' list 8) just the breaks to do then tyres 8) Do you think a slightly less cavalier approach might be called for with the "breaks"? Like reading an...

Okay finally fixed it! It was the dam belt slipping!! Didnt realise until I rev'ed it hard and heard it squealing - too much play in it.. Tightened the belt up and we are getting a good 14/14.5/15v charge on rev :D Just to point out though, the only reason I touched the regulator settings was becaus...

Don't worry about if it was negative earth or positive earth - the fact is that now it is negative earth... Sounds to me like you should be cleaning the points up in the regulator box (top left on the bulkhead as you look from the front) then measure the voltage at the battery again on a fast idle....

Yes - (if -ve earth). To small terminal on dynamo. - Just a temporary connection - make the connection (at the battery end) after starting the engine - and take it off again before stopping the engine. Okay, bearing in mind that I have done nothing to the dynamo - no cleaning etc.. Done what you sa...

The charging system is obviously NOT working! It needs to make 14 volts - when on the battery - open circuit it will go much higher. Simple check - run a temporary 12 volt wire directly to the little terminal on the dynamo - while the engine is running at decent revs - this will throw the dynamo in...

Only thing I have noticed is there is only one lead going to the battery from the splitter thing that goes to coil / starter motor etc - so unless this charges and supplies a charge at the same time??? Not sure - I figured normally you would have a seperate lead going to the battery.. It does both ...

Try cleaning the contacts in the regulator box (the black thing mounted high up on the driver's side bulkhead). The ticking is normal and it's not possible for them to supply too much pressure. Try tightening the clip on the hose. Give the dynamo a thump to free off the brushes. If that doesn't wor...

Something I've noticed from looking at your pics ... you might be alright for the MOT, but longer term you are probably going to need to address the rear arches Other than that it looks you have a rather tasty minor there, are those disc brakes I see on the front? Very nice :D I agree about the arc...

A handful of shotgun pellets? Bits of church roof? Enquiring minds need to know :) . Huh? :-? :o I'm also wondering if thats a 1275 engine in there..... Did you get it from PH? We did find the ad on PH yup. Have not taken it for a drive yet but it does 'sound' more than 1098... Looks a good 'buy' -...

Re: Barn-type find - getting engine running

Especially as the car was FREE :o No wonder you couldn't turn it down! It has also had a 'in-tank' unleaded conversion.. I bet it doesn't "really" Yerrrr, I wasnt really sure what an 'in-tank' conversion is.. But the lady previous owner used to run it from unleaded without an issue....

Thanks , I just wasnt sure as the pipe is directly above the outlet maifold. The pump is only low pressure so it's no problem - you'd normally expect to see one there anyway. Cool thanks, we will put one in.. I wasn't expecting to see disk brakes on it! It has had a Ford Serria front disc conversio...

Widest tyres to fit 14"?

What are the widest rear tyres you can fit on the standard 14" rim?

Also, what is a good 'normal' size to go for that is wider than the current jammy dodgers on there but not like uber wide?

I am thinking 'normal' for the front and as wide as possible on the back.. 8)

Thanks,

Guys, just thought of another question - is it worth putting an in-line fuel filter (a cheapy halfrauds type) before the carb?

Thanks for the help guys. We cleaned up the electric fuel pump contacts as suggested and it ran first time 8) 8) 8) We then cleaned up the glass, got the engine rubbers out ready to replace, cleaned the spark plugs up, started taking the tyres off to replace, quick over-haul of the brakes to come, t...

Barn-type find - getting engine running

Hi all! Trying to get a Minor running that had been sitting for 3 and a half years. Mostly into classic Volkswagen stuff, but when this Minor came up, it was just too good to say no to. So me and my housemate hitched up a trailer and headed to Plymouth. After about 2 hours getting the brakes un-ceas...
